Finding Your Identity

Ahoy hoy everyone!  We're smack dab in the middle of the quarter and many of us have midterms.  It only seems like yesterday, I was opening presents and singing Christmas carols.  Well luckily, one of the perks of people an Illustration major is that I don't really have midterms.  So no cramming thousands of facts in my brain or pulling all night study sessions for me!  But that doesn't mean that I don't have a ton of work to do.

In a previous blog, I mentioned that I was taking a Marketing and Business Practices for Illustrators class.  This class gives students an insight on the business aspect of the industry.  So far, we've interviewed well-known illustrators and art directors to get an idea of what we're getting into.  Now, we're focusing more on how to market and brand ourselves.  The first thing we have to think about is who are target market is and how we can present ourselves to that market.

What's tough about this assignment is that we have to come up with a single image that completely represents you as an artist and professional.  This image will be put on business cards, letterheads, envelopes, etc.  Just thinking about this assignment reminds me of how close I am to graduating...*insert panic attack sounds here*

Panicing aside, I think the past four years have prepared me enough to be confident in my skills.  And I think I have a pretty good idea of what to put on my business card.  Tell me what you think!

clarissa_businesscard.jpgIt's really rough right now.  So I have to tweak it a little bit.  If you're guessing what it's a Tarsier.  They're the smallest monkeys in the world and they're from the Philippines...just like me!  If you google them, they're really weird looking in real life, but I think their absolutely adorable.  :)
