This weekend was the 16th Annual Mud Tug hosted by Zeta Tau Alpha and Phi Kappa Psi. Mud Tug is a single elimination ten-vs-ten tug-of-war competition held in the mud on the fields behind Grace Watson Hall. This year's Mud Tug was the biggest the organizations have ever seen - 155 teams, 2,000+ participants, and over $10,800 raised to benefit Hillside Family of Agencies.
In the meantime... check out the following photos and videos that have already hit the web:
PLANNING & PRODUCTION: Zeta Tau Alpha and Phi Kappa Psi have been working since spring 2011 preparing for Mud Tug. Brothers and Sisters staffed tables in the Kodak Quad, SAU Lobby, and Gracie's to promote pre-registration and sell the 2011 Mud Tug T-shirts. By the Get Ready to Get Dirty BBQ on Thursday 95 teams had already registered for Saturday's games. Phi Psi and Zeta's alarms went off early on Saturday morning as brothers and sisters arrived at the field at 8am to finish setting up the pits for the noon pull. The field contained two pits: one strictly for tugging and a second "play pit" for spectators who just wanted to #GETDIRTY without the competition.
THE 2011 DREAM TEAM: Mud Tug coordinators have recently started drafting a “Dream Team” composed of RIT celebrities to kick off the first tug of the competition. This year the team included: Dr. Destler (RIT President), Dr. Johnson, Greg Pollock (SG President), Phil Amsler (SG VP), Mary-Beth Cooper (Senior VIce President for Student Affairs); Karey Pine (Senior Director, Center for Campus Life), Dawn Soufleris (Asst.Vice President & Director of Student Conduct & Conflict Management Services), Bob Finnery (Chief Communications Officer, University News), Shawna Lusk (Orientation Director), and RITchie (RIT Mascot).
@RITMUDTUG ON SOCIAL MEDIA: participants were encouraged to “check-in” at Mud Tug on Facebook and FourSquare, and to tweet at @RITMudTug using the #RITMudTug or #GETDIRTY hashtags to share their Mud Tug experiences.
