homework on BREAK?!

(January 03 2011) Written by: Emily Okey in Academic Calendar, Coursework, Vacation / Break

Winter quarter is back in action after a lovely 15 day break. Between my week long excursion in Italy during the first week of this quarter, having two weeks to rush to catch up in classes and break I have had quite the busy last month.
Over break, I was reminded of the fact that it does snow in places other than Rochester! I spent christmas in New Jersey where we got almost 2 feet of snow in less than 24 hours.

Although having no classes, wake-up alarms and only limited homework to do was fantastic, although I am kind of glad to be back in the swing of things. More projects to do, notes to take and things to design!
Right now on the quarter system winter break falls between weeks three and four which means... homework! (Although it sounds as though the majority of people procrastinate horribly.... sshhh!) The homework load isn't too bad though and it is kind of nice to be able to work on things over a two week period while eating homemade christmas cookies & sitting in your pjs. So no complaints from me.
In a few years, however, RIT is switching to a semester system which means that finals will come before christmas break and then you get a super long break before coming back for the next semester. Originally I was opposed to the change (until I realized that i knew nothing else). Thinking about it now, it might actually be a good chance to get a short internship or something in the winter.. if only I was here for a few more years to be here for the change over :)
Below is a rough version of an informational poster design I worked on over break for a suet & fruit feeder.. Yeah, I didn't pick the topic, just the design! My information design class this quarter deals with.. well... designing information: how-to, catalogs, magazine table of contents, political graphics, etc. It's pretty neat because my professor has a new project every week which means I don't get bored of things!

Cute poster, Em! Amazing how you can turn something so uninteresting (suet & fruit feeders? really?) into something so cool! Make sure you post the final design!
