Life On the Co-op at Neutrogena
I'm Elishia Ortiz a new media marketing major at RIT with a minor in public relations. I'm currently doing a co-op with Johnson and Johnson working in Los Angeles at Neutrogena and it’s amazing to say the least. I found this co-op at the RIT Fall 2011 career fair.
I wasn't planning on doing another co-op I was going to graduate early but the job offer came my way and I decided to stop everything and take the opportunity. I left my job at the Saunders college of business, several e-board positions and many other opportunities to take a chance with trying out project management a field I had never tried in a new place I've never been before for 6 months and it was so hard for me to leave everything behind but it was something I had to do to get experience at a top 500 company!
I can honestly say I love it and this is one of the best decisions that I’ve made in my RIT experience. I was hesitant in the beginning with project management being so new but everything ended up working out great.
Neutrogena is pretty amazing and to top it off it’s in California! You are treated like a full time employee and have all the opportunities at your finger tips to try as many things as you would like and network with all people in the company.
Being at the company a little over a month now I’ve worked on various projects, wrote a co-op manual to help improve on boarding for the new co-ops, wrote recommendations to improve the co-op program, and learned how to keep track of all the project managers’ metrics. I know I’m going to learn so much in the next 5 months and I can’t wait!
My tips to you are to take the opportunities that come your way even if you’re scared to leave everything behind because it could be the changing point for your career and open a million more doors. In a month at Neutrogena doors have already opened to go into marketing and public relations just by networking. So don’t be scared to put yourself out there and see what comes your way!
