Your blog is really helpful for me as it describe the thing very simply and easy to understand for a new person in the market.
Open Houses - Why You Should Attend
Applying to college is never an easy task and sometimes the hardest part is really just narrowing down the list from your top 15 to top 5 or 6. One way to make this decision a lot less stressful and confusing is to visit the college and really get a feel for what campus life is all about.
Here at RIT we offer many opportunities for prospective students to come and see what we’re all about. For most people reading on-line what RIT has to offer just isn’t enough, so in light of this RIT hosts what most colleges refer to as Open House.
These Open Houses give prospective students a chance to take a guided tour of campus including the academic buildings, science labs, athletic centers, residence halls and general campus life. It also gives them a chance to talk with financial aid advisors, attend general info sessions specific to their college, eat in an actual dining hall, have their portfolios reviewed (if need be), and even meet with academic advisors. Open House is also a great opportunity for prospective students and their parents to ask questions about other aspects such as study abroad, research opportunities or Co-ops (Cooperative Education) as we call them here at RIT, and even general admission requirements.
So far RIT has hosted three Open Houses and will host their final one for the fall this Friday, December 3rd. Here’s a look at some of the photos from the past Open Houses in case you missed them!
You can register for Friday’s Open House HERE.
RIT also hosts Open Houses specifically for transfer students, which will be held on Friday, January 7th 2011 and Friday, January 18th 2011.

Another way to help narrow down your college decision after you’ve been accepted is to attend an Accepted Student Open House. These Open Houses offer a more personalized visit and another opportunity to meet one on one with financial aid and academic departments and advisors, get a look student services, the activities fair, and general campus and resident hall tours. As always lunch will be served on-campus.
During spring, 2011 RIT will be hosting two Accepted Student Open Houses. The first on Friday, April 1st, 2011 and the second on Friday, April 8th, 2011. On-line registration for these events will be available January 2011.
If you’re just beginning your college search then Open House may be a little over whelming for you. Something to consider may be what RIT calls Spring Preview Day. This event will be held on Friday, April 15th 2011 is an opportunity for prospective high school students including freshman, sophomores, juniors and their parents to meet faculty, tour the campus and residence halls and get a more general look at admissions and the financial aid process.
On the off chance you are unable to make any of the Open Houses or feel a more personal visit is better for you RIT offers in-person information sessions, personal interviews, academic department meetings and campus and resident hall tours. For more information or to register for an info session or tour visit the website for Campus Visits.
