Packing Procrastination

Patricia Schiotis on Thursday, 01 July 2010.

As I prepare for a long weekend, I realized that I have, yet again, procrastinated my packing.  I have the entire weekend off, for the Fourth of July, and I leave for New Hampshire in the morning.  But my room is still unorganized, and my bag lies in the corner of my room, empty.  I have started a mental note of what to bring, but nothing has actually gone from my closet to the bag.

This is not the only time I’ve procrastinated my packing.  It seems that every time I move or go on vacation, I wait until the last possible moment to pack.  I remember last year, for the winter break, I didn’t pack until an hour before fellow student ambassador Alissa Anderson was going to pick me up to drive me home. Then she came early, and I decided I didn’t need to bring anything with me.  On the positive side, I got compliments on my light packing.  But the real problem with my packing procrastinating problem came when I moved out of my Riverknoll apartment this spring.

I had a final Friday morning, and then my dad was coming to pick up all my stuff.  I didn’t start packing until he came, and I wanted to go out to dinner so I just put everything in random boxes and threw it in his car.  It didn’t seem like a major problem at the time, until I came home and had to unpack. Everything was all mixed up and it was impossible to find out where to store everything for the summer.  I haven’t even gone through all the bags, and I have been home for a month!

So moral of the story is to not procrastinate when you need to pack.  I should be packing my bags for the weekend now, but I have decided to go to the movies instead tonight.  I guess I won’t be getting much sleep tonight, but that’s what the four hour car ride is for tomorrow!

Happy Fourth of July!
