Schedule Scramble

When you start your first quarter here at RIT, your schedule is all planned out for you, which is great.  But once that Winter Quarter rolls along, you have to figure it out yourself. It can be a daunting task for some people.  I am not one of those people.  I love stuff like that for some reason.  It seems crazy.  My second year I changed majors and had to figure out my schedule for my whole third year!  It was a lot of fun.

But this quarter was different.  With all the fun that I have doing my schedules, I have a nasty habit of overloading myself with too many classes that I end up dropping one or withdrawing from.  So to avoid it this time around, I decided to give myself a lighter coarse schedule.  But in doing so, I ended up panicing and and adding more classes again! 

I spent the first few days of the quarter moving classes around, changing classes, dropping and adding...it was intense!!!  I probably changed my scheulde 10 times!!!  But I think the one that I came up with shouldn't be too bad...I hope.  I'm taking my final art history class that will probably kick my butt, an american history class, a theatre production seminar workshop, a caricature class, and to tie it all together a stress management class (which will come in handy)

So I guess my advice is to know your limits.  If you can do 18+ credits and do them well, then more power to you!  But sometimes when you have a lighter coarse load, you can focus better on those classes and get better grades.  And again...don't panic!  Everything will work out in the end :)

    You mention in your note that your schedule is planned for you for the first quarter. How does this work out? Notably, how does it work for transfer students with some credits?

    I believe if you take AP classes in high school or are a transfer student, the department that you apply to will review your transcripts and determine what credits will transfer over. After that they determine what classes you still have to take and plan it out for you. I'm not entirely sure how everything works, but I am sure that your first quarter is done for you. Hope this helps!

    Hi Sean! Clarissa is correct, the academic department will review your transcripts from your previous school and will then plan out your schedule for your first quarter.
