Key Student and Alumni Services

Job Search Advisement

Career Services Coordinators in our office support specific academic departments and are available to meet on a one-to-one basis with students and alumni on career and employment matters. These sessions are critical to developing individual job search plans and addressing the many questions and issues that arise during the job search process.  Call our office at 585.475.2301 to make an appointment.  Please make arrangements through https://myaccess.rit.edu/ for interpreting services. RIT deaf and hard-of-hearing undergraduate students may want to work with the staff of the National Technical Institute for the Deaf in addition to the career services coordinators in our office.  The NTID Center on Employment can provide additional information on programs and services for those students.

Job Development

We work hard to maintain and expand our working relationships with employers in order to create co-op job opportunities and to list job openings for our graduating students and alumni. These opportunities are accessible through Handshake, our web-based jobs database system.

Cooperative Education/Experiential Education

Cooperative education (co-op) is the most extensive and intensive of RIT’s experiential education opportunities. Co-op is full-time, paid work experience directly related to your course of study and career interests. Many academic programs require co-op while others make it an option. Other RIT academic programs feature internship and other work opportunities consistent with industry and business interests and needs. We not only work hard to prepare students for this experience, but we also put a great deal of effort into generating opportunities and nurturing connections with employers.

Career Fairs

Our office sponsors two major University-Wide Career Fairs and a number of specialized career fairs throughout the year. These are free and open to RIT students and alumni only.

Workshops/Info Sessions

Our staff prepares co-op and graduating students for their job search through courses, workshops and orientations. Topics include: finding a co-op position, job search strategies, resume writing, cover letter writing, interviewing techniques, dress for success, use of social media, how to work a career fair, on the job success, and much more. Students, visit our Workshops and Company Networking Events page and Alumni, you can visit the Alumni Career Programs and Events page.

Office Drop-In Hours

One of our career services coordinators is on duty to meet with you on a first-come, first-served basis, for your convenience in handling quick questions or dealing with pressing issues. This service is available on-site in the colleges as well as in our office. Drop in hours are offered Monday through Friday 9:30-11:30 and 1:30-3:30 on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday in the Office of Career Services and Cooperative Education.

Interview Preparation

InterviewStream is an on-line video practice interviewing system that offers simulated interviews for job seekers to practice both verbal and non-verbal communication skills. Our Mock Interview Program gives students an opportunity to practice interviewing skills with recruiters and receive immediate feedback.

Professional Network

RIT alumni, employers, and friends of the Institute volunteer to provide current students and alumni with career development support, counsel, guidance, reinforcement and constructive examples. The RIT Professional Network is co-sponsored by RIT’s Alumni Association Board of Directors and the Offices of Career Services and Cooperative Education and Alumni Relations. The Professional Network is accessible to students and alumni on-line through Handshake.

Going Global/International Co-ops

To help students research opportunities overseas - we have acquired access to the Going Global site. Going Global Career Guides contain more than 10,000 resources for finding employment at home and abroad. The Global Key Employer Directory contains corporate listings of leading local and multinational employers in 31 countries around the globe! And the Job & Internship Listings contain more than 10,000 international job openings and internship positions. As an RIT student you have free access to this site from the Going Global link on the main student page of our site. Students or graduates interested in an international co-op experience, meet with our Associate Director for International Outreach, Maria Richart, for assistance with the process. More information about working abroad is available on our site.
