Critical Instructions and Documents > Graduate Credit

Teachers who attend PLTW training at RIT have the opportunity to earn graduate
credits for the work completed. Each course has specific requirements that must
be met to be eligible for the graduate credit. The tuition charge for each six-
quarter-credit (equivalent of four-semester credit) course is $900, approximately an
80 percent discount on the current tuition cost.

These graduate credits can be applied to RIT’s Master of Science in Professional
Studies http://www.rit.edu/cast/cms/grad/masters.html program. PLTW teachers
can transfer up to 30 of these credits into the MS program and then transfer in an
additional 12 quarter credits from another accredited institution, leaving only eight
credits of required course work to earn the MS in Cross Disciplinary Professional
Studies. The credits are also eligible to be transferred to another university.

If you are interested in graduate credit, there are a few steps you need to follow:

On the first day of instruction, the Affiliate Professor or Master Teacher for your
course will discuss the specific additional requirements you will have to fulfill for the
graduate credit.

  • If you wish to proceed with the credit option, you must turn in a Graduate
Student Registration Form, along with a $900 check, to Darlene in the PLTW
office by 4 p.m. Monday of the second week of instruction.
  • A check or money order is the only accepted means of payment.
  • Each course has specific final assessment tools for graduate credit – they
are outlined in the graduate credit materials specific to your course.

Questions about the graduate credit program should be directed to Darlene Slack,
dlsmet@rit.edu or 585-475-4609.
