Full-Time Graduate Students
Congratulations on your acceptance into graduate study at RIT! The following checklist outlines the steps necessary to prepare for your first term of study at RIT.
PAY THE ADVANCED TUITION DEPOSIT
Now that you are admitted, you are required to submit your Advance Tuition Deposit to the Office of Graduate Enrollment Services in order to reserve your place in your program, get your student RIT student computer account, and apply for campus housing. The deadline for submission of your tuition deposit is:
___May 1 (Fall term entry)
___December 15 (Spring term entry)
UPDATE YOUR RIT COMPUTER ACCOUNT
After you have paid the advance tuition deposit, your existing RIT account will transition to a full student account. If you have not created an RIT account, you will receive an email with instructions for how to create your account. Please note the transition to a full student account is not immediate.
Your RIT computer account will allow you to tap into institute computer systems from any computer that is online whether you are on campus or at home.
See start.rit.edu for other account management information including resetting your password and retrieving your username.

APPLY FOR CAMPUS HOUSING
Submit your Housing Contract, using the Online Housing Contract. Be sure you have already paid your tuition deposit, as it is required to apply for RIT campus housing. RIT housing assignments are made on a first-come, first-served basis, depending upon the date you submit the advance tuition deposit and housing application. RIT housing is available for graduate students, but cannot be guaranteed.
COMPLETE THE VISA APPLICATION PROCESS (INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS)
International students applying for a student visa should start the process as soon as possible. If you have not received your Certificate of Eligibility (I-20 or DS-2019), click here to ensure you have submitted required documents.
REGISTER FOR ORIENTATION
RIT offers a number of orientation programs and options for new graduate students. Click here to learn more and register for the programs that are of interest to you. Please note dates/times may not yet be posted, so check back regularly for updated info.
SUBMIT FINAL TRANSCRIPTS (If Applicable)
If you will receive a degree prior to enrollment at RIT, final transcripts must indicate receipt of the degree. When all your classes are complete, make arrangements to send transcripts to the Office of Graduate Enrollment Services or drop them off at our office when you arrive on campus. Please note copies of transcripts and degree certificates are not acceptable. Failure to submit official original transcripts and proof of completion of degree required for entry to your RIT program will result in your being unable to register for courses.
RETURN THE GRADUATE ADMISSION CONTINGENCY FORM (If Applicable)
If your admission to RIT is contingent on additional coursework or special requirements, a Graduate Admission Contingency Form is enclosed. Please read it carefully. Sign one copy and send a scanned copy by email to firstname.lastname@example.org or fax to 1-585-475-7164. If you have any questions regarding the conditions of your acceptance, please contact your academic department.
RETURN HEALTH HISTORY AND IMMUNIZATION FORMS
Directions for completing these on-line forms in the Student Health Center web portal will be emailed to your RIT student computer account.

APPLY FOR HEALTH INSURANCE
RIT requires that full-time graduate students maintain health insurance. Coverage is available through the RIT “group rate” insurance plan. The estimated annual rate for health insurance for the academic year is approximately $1,100. If you have questions or concerns more information can be found by clicking here.
CONTACT YOUR GRADUATE COORDINATOR/ACADEMIC ADVISOR
If you have questions about your program or registering for classes, contact the graduate program director or advisor in your academic department. Click here for a list of graduate program advisors/directors. They can assist you in reviewing program requirements, planning a schedule, and guiding you through the registration process.

If, due to unusual circumstances, you are unable to attend RIT in the term you have been admitted, you may be able to defer your admission to a future term. Please contact Graduate Enrollment Services at (585) 475-2229 or firstname.lastname@example.org for more information and to find out if a deferral is possible.
