Register for a Course

You can take courses at RIT without being enrolled in a degree or certificate program. This option is appropriate if you want to try a course or two in anticipation of applying for a degree, or if you are taking just a few courses for professional or personal development. These students are known as non-matriculated students. If you later decide that you want to complete an application to a part-time, on-campus or online degree or certificate program, you should contact the Office of Part-time and Graduate Enrollment Services for more information.

Summer Registration for non-matriculated students begins April 24, 2012. Classes start on June 4, 2012.

Students new to RIT:

  1. Review and select. Click Here for a list of Summer courses that do not require prerequisites and can be taken by students not enrolled in an RIT program. A listing of all courses offered this quarter can be found at RIT’s Academic Planning site.

See How to Read the Schedule of Courses for information on how to determine undergraduate from graduate-level courses.

  2. Submit a Registration Request Form . A counselor will review your request and be in touch with you shortly.

Returning RIT students:

If you have taken courses at RIT within the last four quarters, you should use our Student Information System where you can register online using your student ID and RIT computer account.

Note: Returning RIT Students who are matriculated in a degree or certificate program, should check with their Academic Program Advisor before registering to make sure that the course(s) they plan to register for fulfill the degree or certificate requirements of their program. Students new to RIT that wish to submit an application for program enrollment at a future date should contact the program department to ensure course selection is applicable to the desired degree requirements.
