Materials Science and Engineering

Program Overview

The MS materials science and engineering program is a joint program of RIT's College of Science and the Kate Gleason College of Engineering. The program offers a serious interdisciplinary learning experience in materials studies, crossing over the traditional boundaries of such classical disciplines as chemistry, physics, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering. This 24-credit certificate program is designed for individuals who want to explore the area of materials science and engineering or those who want to quickly enhance their knowledge and skills in it and/or learn new trends in the field. A student with this advanced certificate can acquire the MS Materials Science & Engineering by taking an additional 21 credits.

Admission Requirements

Students applying for admission to the program will need to hold a bachelor's or equivalent degree from an accredited institution and a minimum grade point average of 3.0. Students with lower grade point averages may take courses on a nonmatriculated basis and be admitted after successful completion of two or more courses. Applicants must follow RIT procedures for submitting undergraduate or master's transcripts, a letter of intent, a resume and two professional recommendations.

International applicants should have GRE and TOEFL scores.
