Database Administration
Program Overview
The advanced certificate program in database administration provides students with the knowledge and expertise needed to seek or further careers in database administration. Graduates will be able to discuss and develop policies, procedures, and standards needed to manage data in a diverse organization. The four-course program sequence provides the knowledge necessary to manage and deploy databases using a major commercial database management system.
Admission Requirements
Fulfill general criteria for graduate admission;
Successful completion of a baccalaureate degree at a regionally accredited college or university;
A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 in undergraduate work. Applicants with a GPA that is less than 3.0 may be considered, but may be required to take the Graduate Record Exam (GRE);
International applicants will be required to have prior academic performance equivalent to a 3.0 GPA
or a first class diploma from an accredited four-year program. The GRE is required for all international applicants;
Applicants whose native language is other than English must submit scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) examination to demonstrate strong English language skills. A score of at least 570 (paper-based), 230 (computer-based), or 88 (internet-based) is required. Applicants with lower scores may be admitted but will be required to take a prescribed program of study in English along with the reduced course load in the program if deemed necessary;
Other factors may be considered in the admission process such as strong employment history, especially in database management or administration or application development.
Prerequisites
Students must satisfy the following prerequisites of the program before matriculating:
• Intermediate-level knowledge of programming in a high-level object-oriented programming language such as Java, C++, or C* - equivalent to at least one year of study;
• One topic from Fundamentals of Database Client Server Architecture (4002-784) is required for Database Performance and Tuning, but permission of the instructor may be granted for this requirement.
