Telecommunications Network Management

Program Overview

RIT offers three certificate options in telecommunications technology: data communications, voice communications, and telecommunications network management. All three programs have been designed to provide college-level education for telecommunications professionals or those employed in related fields.

The courses in the data communications certificate and the voice communications certificate are prerequisites for the courses in the telecommunications network management certificate. All three programs have been designed to provide college level education for telecommunications professonals or those employed in related fields. The data communications certificate focuses on the physical and data link layers of the OSI model protocol suite. The voice communications certificate focuses on telephony, the wireline and cellular PSTN, and related transmission and switching equipment. Courses in the telecommunications network management certificate study narrowband and broadband switching techniques, new policy directions, and many aspects of the management of telecommunications networks.

Curriculum Review

The data communications certificate focuses on the physical and data link layers of the OSI model protocol suite. The voice communications certificate focuses on telephony, the wireline and cellular PSTN, and related transmission and switching equipment. Courses in the telecommunications network management certificate study narrowband and broadband switching techniques, new policy directions, and many aspects of the management of telecommunications networks.

The courses in the data communications certificate and the voice communications certificate are prerequisites for the courses in the telecommunications network management certificate.

    Concentration

    Courses in the telecommunications programs may be used in developing a professional concentration in telecommunications engineering technology or the professional concentration in telecommunications for the bachelor’s degree in applied arts and science. If you plan to pursue the BS degree in telecommunications engineering technology, contact the ECTET office for a list of substitute courses that will meet both certificate and degree requirements. Courses from other institutions cannot be substituted.

    Admission Requirements

    Completion of either the data communications certificate or the voice communications certificate is required for admission into this certificate program.
