Application Instructions

Program applications to RIT require submission of a $60 application fee and official transcripts. Graduate applicants are also required to submit a resume, personal statement, and 2 recommendation letters.  Additional program-specific requirements can be found on the program overview pages at www.rit.edu/ritonline.

Undergraduate Applicants: If you have never attended college previously, we require a high school transcript or copy of your GED or other high school equivalency document. If you have earned more than 30 semester credits or 45 quarter credits of college credit, you are required to send college transcripts only. RIT’s mailing address for remittance of official transcripts can be found at www.rit.edu/parttime.

Graduate Applicants: Official transcripts of all previous post-secondary education are required. You must provide official transcripts or certified copies, not photocopies. All transcripts should be sent to RIT’s Office of Graduate Enrollment Services. The admission of a student who has not yet completed undergraduate work depends on the filing of a final transcript showing all course work, the degree granted and the date of the degree. RIT’s mailing address for remittance of official transcripts can be found at www.rit.edu/grad.

Letters of Recommendation

For Graduate Applicants Only

Two letters of recommendation are required for admission to all RIT online graduate programs. Recommendations should come from members of the academic community and/or workplace professionals who know your qualifications for online graduate study. Recommendation letters can be emailed directly by referees to  opes@rit.edu or sent by postal mail to the Office of Graduate Enrollment Services.

Personal Statement of Educational Objectives

For Graduate Applicants Only

You may forward a personal statement describing your educational objectives to opes@rit.edu, or forward it along with your other application materials. You may wish to address: (1) why you are applying for your chosen program, (2) what you hope to achieve through your education, (3) how your program will relate to your long-range career objectives, (4) what personal or “non-academic” qualities you will contribute to the learning environment in your program, (5) what (if any) prior experience you have with respect to your chosen program, and (6) specifically why you want to attend RIT.
