Executive MS Service Management

Program Overview

RIT’s executive program, a favorite of industry professionals, allows you to pursue a master’s degree with minimal interruption to existing commitments. This program gives you the opportunity to update your skills and credentials quickly – usually in just 15 months or less. This can be accomplished through a combination of summer sessions at RIT, online learning, independent study, transfer credit and credit for selected work experiences and personal accomplishments. If you have a bachelor’s degree and five years of professional experience, RIT’s executive leader option may be the opportunity you’ve been looking for.

The Executive Leader program has been in existence for nearly 14 years. It’s ability to produce profound new beliefs and practices in service industry professionals is its forte.

Professionals from a huge variety of service sector organizations including banking, hospitality, health care, and education, has driven its unique popularity. Curriculum Review

This executive program is normally offered over two 2-week summer sessions (these sessions are two weeks long each) in June and August, however, flexible options to accommodate diverse works schedules are available.

International Executive Leader sessions are offered at various locations. Courses are one week long and completion of the program takes approximately 14-16 months.

The program consists of eight courses (32 credits), a themed industry project or thesis (4 credits), and 12 credits for experience. The requirements for entry into the program are the same as the normal program – with the exception of the 5 years experience required. The courses are:

Admission Requirements

Prior to being admitted to the Master of Science degree program, applicants must illustrate to the program chairperson that their previous training, ability, practical experience and education indicate a reasonable chance of success. The complete list of admission requirements includes:

  • Graduate application
  • Baccalaureate degree or equivalent from an accredited institution
  • Official undergraduate transcript(s) (in English for International Students)
  • Two professional recommendations (in English for International Students)
  • An on-campus interview (when possible)
  • Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher - (a GPA of 2.75 will be considered, given superior recommendations, and the experience of the candidate since college graduation)
  • Foundation course work with grades of 3.0 or higher (if required)
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of at least 550 paper based or 213 computer based for international students.
  • International students are required to take the Michigan Test upon arrival.
