RIT offers three certificate options, including data communications, voice communications, and telecommunications network management. The courses in the data communications certificate and the voice communications certificate are prerequisites for the courses in the telecommunications network management certificate. All three programs have been designed to provide college level education for telecommunications professionals or those employed in related fields. The voice communications certificate focuses on basic telephony concepts and voice-based applications.

Curriculum Review

The voice communications certificate focuses on telephony, the wireline and cellular PSTN, and related transmission and switching equipment. The data communications certificate focuses on the physical and data link layers of the OSI model protocol suite. Courses in the telecommunications network management certificate study narrowband and broadband switching techniques, new policy directions, and many aspects of the management of telecommunications networks.

The courses in the data communications certificate and the voice communications certificate are prerequisites for the courses in the telecommunications network management certificate.

Courses:

  • 0618-206 Computers and their Applications
  • 0614-271 Telecommunications Fundamentals
  • 0614-464 Signaling & Transmission & Switching in Voice Communications

    Concentration

Courses in all three telecommunications programs may be used in developing a professional concentration in telecommunications for the BS degree in applied arts and science. If you plan to pursue the BS degree in telecommunications engineering technology, contact the ECTET office for a list of substitute courses that will meet both certificate and degree requirements. Courses from other institutions cannot be substituted.
