What You Need To Know for Fall Quarter, 2011 (quarter 20111)

New Students - On-Campus Employment
Welcome to RIT and the first steps of obtaining on-campus employment! Below are some quick reminders about what you should know and do for your first quarter at RIT.
Student Employment Office
- Open: Monday - Friday, 8:30 - 4:30.
- Located: In the University Services Center (Building 87) behind Crossroads.
Getting A Job
- There are many ways you can get a job:
- Job Postings: Refer to On-Campus Job Postings or Off-Campus Job Postings on our SEO Website - we update them daily. Fall quarter positions are normally posted around mid-August. Follow the instructions for each posting as to how to apply.
- RIT Networking: Ask around in the department you are majoring in such as your academic advisor, professors, departmental staff - not all departments post with SEO
- Ask Around: Several departments have openings fairly often such as Food Service, Wallace Library, NTID Notetaking, or Maintenance - go to the department or restaurant/cafeteria and ask for the supervisor. Remember to bring a resume!
- SEO Employment Eligibility: Once you receive a job offer, come to the Student Employment Office to obtain your Employment Eligibility Card.
SEO Employment Eligibility Card Requirements
- Students who receive a job offer must complete the employment verification process, in person, at the Student Employment Office.
- To get your SEO Employment Eligibility Card you need to:
- Bring a filled out Employment Verification Form to our office located in the University Services Center (Building 87) behind Crossroads - Monday - Friday, 8:30 - 4:30
- Fill out an I-9 form - US federal form for employment eligibility verification
- Needed for the I-9 form is original documentation to prove who you are and that you can work in the United States - a list of acceptable documents can be found here. You must bring one document from List A or one document from List B and List C. All documents must be original. Copies, faxes, or scanned documents cannot be accepted.
Registration Requirements
- You need to be registered for classes before you can apply for the SEO Employment Eligibility Card - you can't be a student worker if you are not a student!
- Make sure you are registered for at least 12 credit hours - If you don't know if you are registered, contact the Registrar's at 475-2821 or your academic advisor or staff person from the department you are majoring in.
Federal Work Study
- Federal Work-Study (FWS) Program is a federally funded program administered by RIT to promote access to employment for students who demonstrate financial need as defined by the Federal Government.
- No student is guaranteed a job on-campus if he/she has been awarded FWS money
- Any questions about applying for FWS or general concerns, please contact the Financial Aid Office at 475-2186 and/or ritaid@rit.edu or ntidaid@rit.edu
- Any questions concerning your financial information-tuition and fee rates, billing, payment options, loan repayment, and educational tax credit information needs to be referred to the Student Financial Services at 475-6186.
