POSITION SUMMARY:
Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders are “model students” who plan and facilitate two weekly per-led study sessions for students enrolled in a historically difficult course. The ideal candidate for this position would be an undergraduate student who has received an A or B at RIT for the course they are looking to support. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Attend all classes, labs, and meetings for the assigned course section; Plan and facilitate two weekly study sessions, which are open to all students enrolled in the supported course section; Maintain attendance records for each session; Attend weekly SI Leader training; Communicate clearly with the SI Supervisor and course faculty regarding session plans and student progress. A typical work week involves four to eight hours in class, one hour in training, one hour of planning/administrative responsibilities, and two hours facilitating group sessions.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIRED:
SI Leaders have excellent listening, administrative and organizational skills, a proven track record of outstanding class attendance and performance, and the ability to communicate effectively with peers, staff, and faculty.

JOB TITLE: TEACHING ASSISTANT

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Department of Physics is hiring students to serve as assistants in the physics workshops. The student employee is expected to support the lead faculty member in the class, clarify and explain workshop activities to students in the class, and help set-up and remove laboratory and demonstration equipment as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Move among student groups in a crowded workshop classroom, understand and explain the physics workshop activities, be able to lift and move demonstration and laboratory equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIRED:
Students must be matriculated in a graduate or undergraduate technical program at RIT and have successfully completed a one year, calculus-based introductory physics course at an accredited college with an average grade of B or better. Student must have excellent communication skills and be sufficiently mobile to easily move around in a crowded workshop classroom.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS PREFERRED:
Students that have successfully completed the RIT University Physics course sequence (1017-311, 312, 313) are preferred. Special consideration will be given to students that completed one or more physics courses in a workshop format.

JOB TITLE: Student Research Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY:
Conduct fluorescence research using new Hitachi fluorescence spectrophotometer - work with faculty to find long lifetime excited states, development gain measurement techniques, write summaries to include in publications and reports.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Operation and careful, repeated measurements of the lifetimes of fluorescence excited states of methane. Capture data, plot, analyze, and discuss results for each state.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIRED:
Upperclass chemistry major with good experimental skills as evidenced by faculty references. Physical chemistry and comfort with organic compounds very important. Comfortable with data analysis, error propagation, and interpretation of measured results. Reliable work habits and handling of multiple responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS PREFERRED:
Junior or Senior level preferred but not required.
