Dr. Jennifer Schneider, CIH is the Eugene H. Fram Chair of Applied Critical Thinking in Academic Affairs and professor in the Department of Civil Engineering Technology, Environmental Management & Safety at RIT. She founded and leads the cross university Collaboratory for Resiliency & Recovery @ RIT. Prior to RIT, Dr. Schneider was in corporate Environmental, Health & Safety for Kodak, Mobil and ITT/Goulds. She served on the local HAZMAT team, and comes from a family of first responders.
As the RIT Fram chair, Dr. Schneider leads a university wide, student focused initiative to develop critical thinking that encompasses over 600 courses annually, scholarship and multiple events. As a faculty, Dr. Schneider has developed and taught 12 courses and has chaired almost 100 graduate thesis/ projects and 75 senior projects. She enjoys mentoring students at all levels of learning and has earned awards for her engagement of students.
Research Interests include: multidimensional sustainability, stewardship of hazardous materials, critical infrastructure and disaster management through application of risk analysis and decision systems. She is an RIT Million Dollar PI, a Board of Trustees Scholar award winner (2014). She is extended faculty to the Golisano Institute of Sustainability at RIT, and associated faculty of the Imaging Products Laboratory of the Center for Imaging Science and the Laboratory for Environmental Computing and Decision-making.
Dr. Schneider is very involved in her professional community, and an abbreviated list follows: She serves on the US TAG 268 of the ISO 37101 standard. Dr. Schneider was appointed by Honorable NY Governor Andrew Cuomo to NY Respond Commission in 2012. She has served on the National Academy of Sciences, Offshore Windfarm Health and Safety Standards Committee (2012/3); OSHA Regional 2 Center Technical PI, Genesee Valley Safety Conference Executive Board Member (1997-) Treasurer (2009- 2017); Dr. Schneider is a 25 year diplomate of the American Board of Industrial Hygiene, (comprehensive practice, CP#7273), a member of the American Industrial Hygiene Association, American Society of Safety Engineers, Air and Waste Management Association, Military Operations Research Society - Risk & Decision Systems (MORS), and the Great Lakes Hazard Coalition.
