The Finger Lakes Region of New York is rapidly becoming recognized as a hotbed for food and beverage innovation, production and processing. It is critical to establish the Center for Sustainable Packaging at RIT as a nationally known resource for this growing industry. New York's food industry and the country's top packaging program are a perfect fit for leading the world in revolutionary packaging methods that are more sustainable, show a reduction in production costs and ultimately educate consumers of the responsibility that the food industry has taken in conserving Earth's resources. A critical component of the Center for Sustainable Packaging's plan is the engagement of a major food manufacturer in this consortium to provide support and identify research questions which extend to the full extent of the supply chain.
