Better Me personal training is a one-on-one or small group service for RIT recreation members who are searching for personalized fitness planning, positive exercise coaching, and wellness accountability.

Pricing

The duration of each personal training session is either 30 minutes or 1 hour. You and your trainer will decide on a routine that works best for your schedule and your fitness goals. Cost is based on the number of hours purchased. Hours must be purchased up front, and the funds are collected from your Tiger Bucks.

1 hour = $45
5 hours = $200
10 hours = $380

Better Me offers a wide variety of group fitness classes like Aqua Fitness, Boot Camp, Yoga, Pilates, and more. Classes are designed and adjustable for every fitness and experience level. Classes are being offered for FREE this semester (Spring 2024).  Have fun!

Class Descriptions

Aqua Fit helps condition and tone your heart, body, mind, and spirit with fun and fluid exercises that target muscles for endurance, strength, flexibility, range of motion, and balance. This class uses water resistance techniques and a variety of equipment, both in deep and shallow water, to allow participants to get a rejuvenating, invigorating, and effective workout. Swimming skills are not necessary.

This class will teach poses in a vinyasa (sequence of poses moving with breath) for those looking to learn the yogic flow and do stretching and strengthening exercises. Class is suitable for all yoga skill levels including beginners who can transition from floor to standing without the aid of chairs. The class will be taught in American Sign Language, and faculty/staff with basic sign language skills are welcome. Expect an energizing practice midday allowing for a quick clean up back to work! Please bring your own mat or a towel to use.

Pilates is a low-impact class designed to improve joint strength, balance, posture, coordination, and core stability. Participants are coached through the day-to-day application of learned movements.

Better Me Indoor Cycling instructors guide participants through various workout phases within each class in order to improve physical conditioning on a specialized stationary bike. Phases include warmup, steady-paced cycling, sprints, climbs, cool down, and more.

Help us cultivate a culture of wellness and sustainability while learning or sharing basic practices for starting and tending a garden.  Whether you already have a “green thumb”, would like to learn the step-by-step process of owning a garden, want to unwind and enjoy the company of colleagues or simply enjoy the health benefits of outdoor physical activity, we invite you to get your hands dirty and be a part of our community!

The RIT Community Garden is located behind the tennis courts.  Show up when you can and leave when you need to; stay as long as you want.  Gloves are available but we encourage you to bring your own, if you have some.  We also encourage you to bring water and sunscreen.  

Yoga is a low-impact class designed to improve posture, strength, flexibility, and balance. Participants are coached through proper technique for safety and effectiveness.

Dance HIIT is a combination of cardio and strength training choreographed to popular music.  This 45 minute sweat session will work your body from head to toe! The interval style format maximizes your workout to burn more calories and sustain cardiovascular health. No dance experience necessary! 

Zumba is a dance-based cardio class that targets fat loss and lean muscle toning in the upper body, lower body, and core. Zumba is a high energy, rhythmic workout that offers a fun, party-like atmosphere.

Better Me Kettlebell class utilizes the uniquely designed kettlebell to improve strength, flexibility, balance, and cardiovascular capacity while emphasizing technique and safety.

Do you suffer from tendonitis, tight muscles, back, neck, and shoulder pain? This no-impact, low-intensity class utilizes various tools and techniques to help you feel your best! Self-Myofascial Release (Foam rolling), Dynamic Stretching, Static Stretching, and Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation Stretching (PNF Stretching) are the scientifically proven methods which will be utilized heavily in this restorative class.

Better me HIIT, or High Intensity Interval Training, takes participants through a full-body workout that alternates between short, high intensity sets, followed by short recovery sets.

Better Me Boot Camp mixes traditional callisthenic and body weight exercises with interval training and strength training. Our instructors will incorporate various workout modes and equipment to ensure safe and effective fitness improvement.

Total Body Strength utilizes a variety of training modes and equipment to improve overall physical fitness while keeping workouts fresh and fun.  You will receive positive feedback and expert coaching through different exercises that focus on full-body muscle strength, muscle endurance, toning and fat burn.  

Performance Fitness blends science-based training techniques and popular training modes to emphasize performance-related fitness components (power, agility, balance, speed) while maintaining and improving health-related fitness components (muscle strength, muscle endurance, cardiorespiratory fitness, flexibility, and body composition). This class is available to all experience and fitness levels.

This low-impact class focuses on foundational fitness components related to better exercise performance and completion of daily physical tasks. Stability and balance training contribute to improved joint health, greater force output, and efficient performance of daily movement. Through a variety of low intensity workout modes, you will perform movements for core strength, core endurance, postural correction, and coordinated balance.

The Better Me Tai Chi class offers a mind-body workout designed to improve physical and mental health by helping to reduce anxiety and stress, improving balance and coordination, increasing flexibility and strengthening muscle.

A dynamic class that fuses bursts of cardio with strength exercises to sculpt your upper body, legs, and core. This 45-minute, full-body workout incorporates a variety of strength training equipment to work your muscles in new ways and teach you how to make the most out of your workout. Open to all fitness levels.

Better Me also utilizes a modified version of the Functional Movement Screening to help you improve your mobility and balance. The 30 minute evaluation is $30, and payments will be made through Tiger Bucks. In addition to the functional movement evaluation, you will receive a wellness assessment, a list of corrective exercises to improve functional movement weaknesses and a free follow up evaluation.
