Currently, customized programs can be designed to enhance your knowledge of RIT's policies and procedures, as well as to learn best practices in the areas of supervision, management and leadership.

Topics:

Harassment and Discrimination Training

This session reviews the details of RIT's policy on prohibiting harassment and discrimination, C6.0.  It is required that all faculty and staff attend.

This session can also be completed online through E Learning Zone.

Employee Action Form (EAF) Workshops

Have you ever struggled trying to decide whether to use a New Hire Employee Action Form or Temporary Employee Action Form? Or, have you wondered what information is required on the Promotion/Change Employee Action Form? This series is designed to help answer these questions and familiarize employees with the various Employee Action Forms found on the Human Resources website. The EAF workshops provide the information you need to efficiently and accurately process transactions using the appropriate Employee Action Forms.

Hiring, Supervising & Retaining Student Employees

This session refreshes our knowledge of general characteristics about our students and provides information on being a strong supervisor; beginning with the interviewing and hiring process, through the training period and continuing to motivate your student employees to be long term, strong members of your department. Topics covered in this workshop include the use of various forms, what employer responsibilities are, new social security regulations, proper training, eligibility cards, and more.

Management & Leadership Seminar Series

The Center for Professional Development has designed this series for individuals who have supervisory responsibilities at all levels of management and administration at RIT. Many of the topics in these sessions will cover important information supervisors need to know for federal and state legal and regulatory compliance. This series is available to supervisors and managers in an open-enrollment format. If you are interested in a private session that is customized for your department, please contact The Center for Professional Development at 5-5313.

Toastmasters

Toastmasters International is a world-wide organization that teaches communication and leadership skills in a club setting, where members get to practice these skills in a supportive setting each time they attend a meeting.

Internal Controls and Fraud in the Workplace

All RIT employees need to be aware of the business risks in their area of responsibility. To help mitigate those business risks, each division, college, and department is responsible for establishing and maintaining effective business practices and internal controls. To assist the University in achieving its objectives, it is vital that a strong internal control environment exists in all aspects of the RIT Community.

Improving Trust and Transparency

This session shows a crystal clear view of the importance of trust and an understanding of how it can decline. Through personal reflection and discussion, participants learn to recognize situations of low trust and learn that these are not hopeless situations. There are actions that can be taken to place leaders on a path to higher trust and transparency.

Immigration Workshop

If you are involved in recruiting and hiring faculty or staff, you need to be familiar with immigration laws and procedures. We are pleased to offer a seminar conducted by Ms. Maggie Catillaz, representing RIT's legal counsel for immigration matters, Harter, Secrest & Emery.

EAP Informational Sessions for Supervisors

This session will provide a comprehensive overview of The EAP benefit that RIT provides for all employees and how supervisors can use it to help their employees.

Developing Skills for New Supervisors

You already excel in your field, but being an effective supervisor requires a new set of skills. This interactive session is designed especially for newer supervisors. Through open dialogue and activities, this session focuses on developing the new skills and knowledge that are essential for supervisors to understand as they begin their new career to ensure they are successful and productive in their positions, respected by their employees and become strong stewards of the university.

Promoting Respect and Civility within your Team

RIT is committed to building an environment in which all people are treated with respect and dignity at all times. Leaders personally set the example while establishing and reinforcing the standards and behaviors for respect and dignity within their teams.
