Gary has been a permanent member of the EH&S team since February 2005, and prior to that, he served as an RIT Campus Safety Officer for 9 years. Gary previously spent seventeen years in the Public Safety department at Rochester General Hospital, and has also been a volunteer firefighter since 1977, serving in all line officer ranks, including Chief and Commissioner.
Gary has numerous fire safety responsibilities here at RIT, including: fire alarm tracking and coordination; serving as the Liaison with the Henrietta Fire District and Fire Marshal; responding to fires, fire alarms, spills, odor investigations; overseeing campus-wide fire extinguisher inspections; performing the Office of Fire Prevention and Control annual fire inspection; providing Fire Safety Education to faculty, staff, and students; coordination of tent and pyrotechnic permit applications through the Town of Henrietta; and issuing hot work and fire suppression system shut down permits on campus. Gary's other EH&S responsibilities include managing the 90 day hazardous waste storage vaults and coordinating the management, disposal and recycling of hazardous waste, universal wastes, medical waste, aerosol cans, waste oil, and scrap metals on campus.
Gary holds an A.A.S degree in Fire Protection from Monroe Community College and a certificate in Emergency and Disaster Management from RIT.
