Between December 12 - 21: For Students Who Renewed and Need to Fill Vacanies

If you renewed your current housing (step 1), you will receive an email notification between December 7 - 11 if the apartment, suite, or room you renewed has any vacancies for the 2013–2014 academic year. You will have between December 12 – 21 to complete the online signature form and roommate add process in order to add in a student(s) of your choice to fill any vacancy you may have in your housing unit. Click for an instructional video on how the roommate add process works.

  • Example: Four students live in a 2-bedroom Colony Manor apartment. Three of the four students went online and renewed their contracts. The fourth student did not renew since she is graduating in May. The three students who renewed may decide as a group who they want to add into the vacancy created by the student graduating. To roommate add a student of their choice into the vacancy, the three students who renewed must go through step 2 below between December 12 – 21. The student to be added into the vacancy must also complete step 2 between December 12 – 21.

Step 2: Complete Online Signature Form & Roommate Add Process Between December 12 – 21

This step is only for students who renewed and need to fill vacancies within their 2013-2014 housing unit.

  1. Students to be added to a vacancy must go to myhousing.rit.edu between December 12 – 21 to complete a 2013–2014 housing contract and a signature form.
  2. Each student who renewed their housing unit in step 1 must go back online to myhousing.rit.edu and complete an online signature form between December 12 – 21. The signature form provides RIT Housing staff proof that you are requesting a particular student to be assigned to the vacancy in your 2013–2014 housing unit.
  3. IMPORTANT! Please Read Carefully! Students who do not fill vacancies in their 2013–2014 housing by 11:59 p.m. on December 21 will no longer have the opportunity to add another student to a vacancy. All vacancies in RIT apartments, University Commons suites, and the RIT Inn that remain at 11:59 p.m. on December 21 will be entered into the available space pool for Phase II student assignments.

University Commons Students Only

If you renewed your current University Commons suite and would like to change rooms for the 2013–2014 academic year OR if you are adding a new student to a vacancy within the suite, you must submit a University Commons Suite Bedroom Sign-up Form.

  • Under the Renewal button on your online housing contract, you will see a link to a pdf for the University Commons Suite Bedroom Sign-up Form.
  • Print, complete, and submit this form to RIT Housing Operations no later than December 21, 2012.

Cancelling Your 2013-2014 Housing Contract

If you decide you no longer need RIT housing for the 2013–2014 academic year, you must cancel your housing contract. You can cancel your housing contract online at myhousing.rit.edu by recalling your 2013-2014 housing contract and clicking on the Cancellation button on the left of your screen.

Spring Term Housing

The Housing Selection Renewal process only applies to the 2013–2014 academic year and has nothing to do with spring term (20123) housing assignments. If you want to add into an RIT apartment or University Commons Suite for spring term, you will need to go through the regular roommate add process.
