A How-To Guide for the Roommate Add Process

You are a student without a completed RIT housing contract for the term you want to submit a roommate add request.

There are two steps that you must complete; first you must complete an RIT housing contract and then you need to submit a roommate add request.

How to complete an RIT Housing Contract
 

  1. Go to myhousing.rit.edu.
     
  2. On the RIT authentication page, enter your RIT computer account username and password, then click Log On.
     
  3. On the home page, click Housing Contract/Dining Plan in the orange header bar.
     
  4. On Term Selector page, select the term you plan to live in RIT housing.

     
  5. On the Begin Contract page, click the Save & Continue button.
     
  6. You are now ready to begin filling out your RIT housing contract.  Work through all the steps on the menu bar.

How to Complete a Roommate Add Request
 

After you submit your RIT housing contract, you will need to wait up to one business day for the Roommate Add Request option to be available to you on the Housing portal.
  1. Go to myhousing.rit.edu.
     
  2. On the RIT authentication page, enter your RIT computer account username and password, then click Log On.
     
  3. On the home page, click Roommate Add Request in the orange header bar.
     
  4. On Term Selector page, select the term you wish to request a roommate add for. Make sure to select the same term you selected for your RIT housing contract.
     
  5. On the Begin Contract page, click the Save & Continue button.

     
  6. In the search box, type in the apartment name and number and click Search.  See the examples of the abbreviations associated with each of the apartment names. Use the abbreviation and the apartment number in the search box.

    Be sure to add a dash when entering a Perkins Green or Racquet Club apartment. In addition, use a dash when entering a one-bedroom or two-bedroom Colony Manor apartment – this does not apply to 2 and 3 bedroom townhouses.
  7. Click Search (This room search may take a minute or two as it is searching our entire database).
     
  8. When the apartment you are searching for appears in the box below the search field click on Save and Continue.
  9. On the Confirmation page, you will see the apartment you are requesting to be added into and the usernames of all the students currently on contract for the apartment, who must approve your roommate add request.
     
  10. Click Save and Continue.
     
  11. Once you click Save and Continue, the roommates currently assigned to the apartment that need to approve your roommate add request will be sent an automated e-mail informing them that you have submitted your request. 

     
  12. The Status page will display your roommate add request and its status.
     
  13. If you decide you no longer want to pursue this roommate add request, you need to cancel it by clicking on the cancel button.
     
  14. When all approvals have been submitted and the roommate add request has been completed, you will receive an e-mail.
     

You are a student with a completed RIT housing contract for the term and you want to submit a roommate add request.
 

How to Complete a Roommate Add Request
 

  1. Go to myhousing.rit.edu.

  3. On the home page, click Roommate Add Request in the orange header bar.
     
  4. On Term Selector page, select the term for which you wish to request a roommate addition.
     
  5. On the Begin Contract page, click the Save & Continue button.
  6. In the search box type, in the apartment name and number and click Search.  See the examples of the abbreviations associated with each of the apartment names. Use the abbreviation and the apartment number in the search box.

  11. Once you click Save and Continue, the roommates currently living in the apartment that need to approve your roommate add request will be sent an automated e-mail informing them that you have submitted your request. 
     
     
  12. The Status page will display your roommate add request and its status.
     
  13. When all approvals have been submitted and the roommate add request has been completed, you will receive an e-mail.
     
  14. If you decide you no longer want to pursue this roommate add request, you need to cancel it by clicking on the cancel button.
     

You are a student currently living in an RIT apartment or University Commons with a vacancy in the unit and want to approve a submitted roommate add request. 

Once the student you want to add into your vacancy submits online a Roommate Add Request, you will receive an automated email letting you know that you can now go to the housing portal to approve the request. 

  1. Go to myhousing.rit.edu.
     
  2. On the RIT authentication page, enter your RIT computer account username and password; then click Log On.
     
  3. On the home page, click Roommate Add Approvals/Status in the orange header bar.

     
  4. The Status page will display the student’s name who has requested to be added into the vacancy and the term desired under the area titled Offers You Received.
     
  5. Using the action box, click Approve or Reject.
     
  6. When the roommate add request has been approved by all required students and processed, you will receive an e-mail.
     

Cancellation of a Roommate Add Request by Housing Operations

If all required housing contracts and/or approvals have not been submitted by the deadline given to the students in the apartment with the vacancy, Housing Operations will cancel the Roommate Add Request.
