AALANA - Individuals who self-identify as African American, Latino/Hispanic, or Native American

Attrition Rate (RIT) - The percentage of students in a given cohort who are not enrolled for courses, not registered for co-op, or have been on a leave of absence for more than five consecutive quarters

Cohort - A specific group of students established for tracking purposes
Co-op Without Courses - Students, both undergraduate and graduate, who are registered for co-op and not registered for any credit hours
Credit Hours Consumed - The number of credit hours taken by students in an academic unit
Credit Hours Generated - The number of credit hours taught by faculty in a course section (determined by the number of students in a course section multiplied by the number of credit hours assigned to the course)

Degree - An award conferred as official recognition for the successful completion of a program of studies
Discipline Full Time Equivalent (DFTE) - The sum of undergraduate credit hours generated in a discipline or college divided by 16 and graduate credit hours generated in a discipline or college divided by 12

Faculty - Persons identified by the institution as such and typically those whose initial assignments are made for the purpose of conducting instruction, research or public service as a principal activity (or activities). They may hold academic rank titles of professor, associate professor, assistant professor, instructor, lecturer or the equivalent of any of those academic ranks. Faculty may also include the chancellor/president, provost, vice provosts, deans, directors or the equivalent, as well as associate deans, assistant deans and executive officers of academic departments (chairpersons, heads or the equivalent) if their principal activity is instruction combined with research and/or public service. Graduate, instruction, and research assistants are not included in this category
First Time Freshmen - Students who attend RIT and have not previously enrolled at another college or university. Included are students who have advanced standing credits from high school from Advanced Placement or college course work taken prior to high school graduation
First Time Full Time Freshmen - Students who enter and attend RIT for the first time at the undergraduate level on a full-time basis
Full Time Instructional Faculty - Faculty members who are employed full time and whose major regular assignment is instruction, including those with released time for research
Full Time (FT) Students - Students, both undergraduate and graduate, registered for at least 12 credit hours. Students on co-op and who are also registered for at least 12 credit hours are included in this category

Graduate Student - A student who holds a bachelor's or first-professional degree, or equivalent, and is taking courses at the post-baccalaureate level
Graduation Rate - The percentage of students in a given cohort who receive a degree, diploma, certificate, or other formal award within 150% of normal time for degree completion

Matriculated Students - Students who have been formally accepted as degree candidates through the Office of Undergraduate Admissions or Part-Time and Graduate Enrollment Services and are registered for courses

Non-Matriculated - Students who have not been formally admitted for candidacy for a certificate, diploma or degree of the Institute and are taking courses on a space-available basis

Part Time (PT) - Students, both undergraduate and graduate, who are registered for between 1 and 11 credit hours. Students on co-op and also registered for between 1 and 11 credit hours are included in this category
Persistence Rate (RIT) - The percentage of students in a given cohort who are enrolled for courses, registered for co-op, or on a leave of absence for five or fewer consecutive quarters
Program Full Time Equivalent (PFTE) - The number of Full Time students plus 1/3 of the Part Time students. FT and PT status is based on credit hours

Registered without Hours - Students registered only for classes that do not carry credit hours (E.g., physical education, some lab courses)
Retention Rate (RIT) - The percentage of persisting students plus the percentage of graduating students in a given cohort

Transfer Student - Students entering RIT for the first time who are known to have previously attended another postsecondary institution at the same level (e.g., undergraduate, graduate)

Undergraduate Student - A student enrolled in a 4- or 5-year bachelor's degree program, an associate's degree program, or a vocational or technical program below the baccalaureate
