RIT is home to several groups interested in raising environmental awareness and making the campus more sustainable.

Student Environmental Action League (SEAL)

is the Institute’s primary "Green" organization. SEAL coordinates a number of events throughout the year, including the annual Campus Clean-Up (April 20) and Waste Audit (April 22). To learn more about SEAL, visit the group’s website at http://www.rit.edu/seal/

RIT Habitat for Humanity

strives to expose its members to a variety of building opportunities with a goal to help families in need of housing. Each Spring break is traditionally used to work on a house in different area. In the past, the participants traveled to Alabama to help victims of Hurricane Katrina. For more information, visit HFH website at http://www.rit.edu/~w-habit/

Engineers for a Sustainable World (ESW)

is composed mostly of engineers, but the group is open to anyone interested in improving sustainable practices. ESW focuses most on innovative applications and hands-on projects to improve sustainability on campus. Recent events include a GM fuel cell demonstration and UV tube workshop. For more information, visit the ESW website at http://www.rit.edu/esw/

The P3 Workgroup

was founded by faculty and students in RIT’s Kate Gleason College of Engineering. With focus on ‘P3’ philosophy (people, prosperity and the planet) the group works on advancement of sustainability “by increasing the level of awareness on all sustainability dimensions among students, so that they can later make a positive impact on our planet and society”. In April 2007, the group won first place from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for design of a solar oven for use in developing countries.
