Cathy's "Better Me" Inspirational Story

Cathy Ahern is the Director of Engineering in Facilities Management Services, and she has been at RIT for five years.

I’ve known Cathy since I started working at RIT.  Over a year ago or so I had a meeting with Cathy and when I met with her I noticed that she had lost some weight.  I was also impressed that she obviously was dedicated as she had a big refreshing-looking pitcher of water sitting on her desk and I thought to myself, wow she is really dedicated to her weight-loss plan. (So went right out and bought myself a pitcher to keep in the refrigerator).

Lea's "Better Me" Inspirational Story

Lea Michel is an assistant professor in the COS,  Department of Chemistry, and she has been at RIT since the summer of 2009.

While the first 3 people featured in this Better Me series were people I knew, Lea’s involvement in the series came about when I reached out to Midge Berfield, RIT’s Manager of Employee Health and Wellness.  I wrote to Midge to tell her about the series I was planning and she suggested we interview Lea.

I’d like to thank Lea for sharing her story.  To read about Lea’s “Better Me” success please click on the attachment below.

Terri's "Better Me" Inspirational Story

I met Terri O’Connor when I moved up to the 4th floor in Eastman. Over the course of the last year Terri told me about how she had lost a lot of weight. She inspires me everyday, so when I was planning this Better Me series Terri obviously came to mind.

I’d like to thank Terri for sharing her story. To read her story please click on the attachment below:

Happy New Year 2011

My # 1 New Year’s Resolution is, as usual, to lose weight. I am hoping that since I am posting it on this blog that I will have to make it come true this year - right?  Everyone has New Year’s resolutions and good intentions for keeping them but I think we all need a little inspiration.

I know a couple of colleagues that were able to lose weight so I thought it would be wonderful if they could share their inspirational stories with all of us. So in the next few days be prepared to be inspired as we share with you on this blog their truly inspirational stories.

RIT Hidden Benefits

I recently bought a new home computer. I was offered various deals for software like Microsoft Office. I smiled and politely said no thank you. The next day I paid a visit to the Digital Den in the SAU and bought Microsoft Office for under $20.

What great benefits we have here at RIT. Did you know that you can shop at BJ’s in Henrietta and receive membership pricing? Just present your RIT ID card to the person at the membership desk. You will be given a membership card to use during that shopping trip.

My Day at the Fair...

University News Service once did an article about getting out on campus, as there are a lot of stories to experience. Last year I did just that and went to the employee craft fair in the SAU. It was such a great experience, I thought I’d write about it for the Staff Council blog, especially since this year's Craft Fair is this week on Wednesday, Dec 8th from 10-4pm in the SAU.

Staff Council Website Moves to New Platform

Welcome!  If you are reading this article you are now reading it on the new and improved RIT Staff Council website; a portal full of valuable information for RIT Staff and community members.

The biggest change for this new website is the use of a new platform called Drupal.  Drupal is a content management system, or a website development tool, that allows the end user or client to modify, add, or edit their website without having to know web programming. The Drupal platform was adopted by RIT in 2009.
