1. What’s Your Story?
Do you love great characters in movies, books, and games? Did you see Wall-E and wish YOU could travel through space? Are you a fan of Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings? What makes these characters memorable? Want to create your own? In this class, we will explore what it takes to create great characters, and the tools it takes to bring them to life! Fire up your imagination — because we are going to combine traditional media with digital computer-based tools to give your characters a distinctive look. Then we will enhance your creations by telling their story. Every character has a story to tell... what’s yours?

2. Web Magic
Start with a clever idea and develop it into a web site for the whole world to see. Learn tools and tricks to build a web site from start to finish. Experiment with graphics, sound, animation and interactivity using tools like Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and Flash MX. Use Dreamweaver MX for creating HTML pages and Flash MX to make exciting animations. Move your website beyond the ordinary — create a really awesome website with lots of animations and movie clips and then upload it to the web.

3. Go Spatial!
Find hidden treasure, take an eco-safari or a virtual field trip and map your experiences and more! In this workshop you will perform hands-on investigative activities using modern geospatial technology such as Google Earth and GIS computer systems and the same GPS devices that the pros use. Learn the fundamentals of geographic investigations through mapping projects using the sea and land, human populations, and ecology. You will be working at the computer each day and there will be lots of field activities using GPS devices. At the end of the workshop you will have a portfolio of maps to present and to take home.

4. Digital Musical Mischief
Give Where the Wild Things Are a musical voice. Just like the mischief Max created in his head, we’ll create our own musical mischief as we dramatize Max’s fearsome adventures using live and computer generated music. Numerous instruments will be provided, and we’ll get to make some of our own. We’ll experiment with music and sound effects, looking at how we can match the intensity of Max’s imagination. Digital technology will allow us to record and mix our wild musical creations into a music track that we’ll play online for all the world to hear.
