For Teams

Regarding access to the field house

Please arrive early to allow enough time to pass through the security check point. All bags, boxes, bins, etc. will be checked. All guests will be screened by security personnel with metal detection devices.

All parts and tools must go through the field house eastside roll up door. If outisde of load-in times, parts and tools must still go through the eastside rollup door. The security officer stationed at the eastside rollup doors must get the Robot Inspector Event Volunteer (yellow hat) to check-in all parts/tools that enter the eastside door during the event.

Please note exception:
Tools allowed through the front door include Leathermans and multi-tools. A multi-tool is a handful of small tools that all fit into the guest's own swiss-army knife-like case. They often include knives, screwdrivers, small pairs of scissors, and pliers. Pocket knives will not be allowed in through the front doors.

IMPORTANT: Please read through all of the instructions and refer to the corresponding diagram so that Load-in and Load-out of Robots/ Equipment and Team Passengers operates smoothly. Please make sure your team driver(s) and bus drivers receive the instructions. If your team has different drivers for the AM and PM then make sure all drivers receive the instructions.

Field House Facility, Food Policy and Food Purchase Options

  • Outside Food Policy
    • There is no restriction on outside food or beverage being brought into the venue.
    • It is highly recommended that teams pre-order food. If your team decides to purchase food from Concessions, there may be long lines and team members may not be able to eat in a timely manner.
    • With RIT’s initiative in sustainability we encourage whenever possible for attendees/participants to bring their own refillable beverage container. Refill water stations are available throughout the venue.
  • Food available for purchase – Options
    • Pre-order Box Lunches, Sheet Pizzas and Beverages
      • All pre-order lunch orders must be requested online at our website. Click here to pre-order food.
      • Lunch orders are due Friday, March 3rd.
      • No changes and/or additions will be accepted after the deadline.
  • Concessions in the Field House will be open Thursday, Friday and Saturday

  • Concession Menu:
    • Breakfast sandwiches

    • Beverages - Soda, Water Bottles, Coffee, Hot Chocolate

Tools, Equipment & Electric usage in Pits & Stands

  1. Teams will have access to the RIT machine shop on campus for machining & welding support.
    • Thursday, March 16, 2023 from 8:30 am – 8:00 pm
    • Friday, March 17, 2023 from 8:00 am – 7:00 pm
    • Saturday, March 18, 2023 from 8:00 am – 2:00 pm
  2. Machine Shop capabilities:
    • Hand tools, manual knee mill, engine lathe, band saw, MIG welding, TIG welding, surface/ cylindrical grinding, composites shop, electronics workstation.
  3. Reminder:
    • All parts and tools must go through the field house eastside roll up door. If outisde of load-in times, parts and tools must still go through the eastside rollup door. The security officer stationed at the eastside rollup doors must get the Robot Inspector Event Volunteer (yellow hat) to check-in all parts/tools that enter the eastside door during the event.

    • Modifying parts at night offsite (e.g. pits have closed and you bring a MECHANISM back to the hotel to fix it) is a violation of R15-C.
    • No charging of batteries overnight is permitted.
  4. Team Equipment-Drill presses and band saws
    • Teams are not allowed to bring their own floor standing power tools, such as drill presses and band saws. A Machine shop is available for teams to use on campus. See manual section 4.8.7 Machine Tools at Events.
  5. Electrical Outlets
    • Each team is limited to 1 plug strip off of the primary circuit.
  6. Electrical Cord Usage (equipment and extension cords)
    • No daisy chaining of electrical connections will be permitted ( ie cannot plug strips into strips and cannot use plug adapters.
    • All cords must be in good condition, not electrical taped. (These electrical rules are national electric code rules, they are also OSHA Regulations as well as fire code requirements.)
    • Power strips must have a minimum of 15 – 20ft cords and be surge protected.
    • All cords must be taped down.
    • Teams are not allowed to use electrical cords, extension cords, power strips in the stands for laptops, cameras, etc.
    • RIT will set up (12) power strips totaling 66 outlets for teams to use on the upper mezzanine level. Power strips will be zip tied to the railings and must remain in place. Teams must utilize them against the railings so as not to drape cords across any walkways.

  7. Forklifts
    • Teams are not allowed to bring and operate their own forklift.
  8. Tents
    • Pop-up tent tops are not allowed. The frames are allowed for hanging things but not the material tops.

Team Mentors

Mentors...need a quiet place to unwind during the competition? Visit the RITZ Sports Zone Dining Unit, which has comfy coaches, TV’s, and food.

The RITZ Sports Zone Dining Unit will be open Thursday, Friday and Saturday. (Located in the Student Alumni Union building)

Team Photographers

All team, school district and freelance photographers must remain in team photographer designated areas during the competition. All photographers must wear a photographer’s access pass while taking pictures in the designated areas. Access passes are available at Pit Admin.
