The addition to an icon in the city needs to live up to the expectation that it shall belong in the present, but also be careful to not rid the existing architecture of its identity. This statement formed the premise behind the design of One East Avenue boutique hotel in downtown Rochester.
The project entailed adapting the former bank (Security Trust) building to a new functionality - boutique hotel. After functionally appropriate reassignment of space, focus was zeroed in on the formal statement by the designer. Sensitive amalgamation of new technology and design while paying attention to joinery details, social needs of the region and urban context led to a building solution that is as refreshing as it is simple.
