Sustainable Manufacturing Testbed

Sustainable Manufacturing Testbed: This lab is home to the type of research upon which the Golisano Institute for Sustainability was originally founded, and it remains a key component of sustainability today. This lab is devoted to the research and development of advanced manufacturing, remanufacturing, and recycling processes that can potentially enable products to last longer, while reducing their environmental footprint. This leads to substantial savings in energy, raw materials, and money, as well as reducing the amount of harmful chemicals released into the environment.

Research conducted here aims to:

  • Improve the processing of recyclable materials found in manufactured products
  • Make economical and environmental sense of materials that have already been mined, refined, and transported around the globe
  • Develop environmentally friendly processes for extracting useful materials from manufactured products so that they can be used over and over
