- Image Permanence Institute
IPI is widely recognized as a leader in preservation research, education, products, and services that meet the needs of individuals, companies, and institutions worldwide. We offer a variety of image stability research services to the photographic and printing industries including light and gas fastness, humidity and abrasion resistance, as well as water fastness. We also offer standardized testing of photo storage and display materials such as pH tests and the Photographic Activity Test.
- Munsell Color Science Laboratory
The MCSL faculty, staff, and graduate students work towards internationally-recognized research in color appearance models, image quality, data-visualization, color-tolerance psychophysics, spectral-based image capture, spectral color rendering and computer graphics, archiving and reproduction of artwork and other areas of color science and color measurement.
- Open Publishing Laboratory
OPL is a cross-disciplinary center dedicated to researching and developing innovative, open source applications for publishing across various media. Based in RIT’s School of Print Media, OPL has created a space where a diverse team of faculty and students from across campus collaborate in creating next generation publishing platforms. Their goals are to extend existing publishing platforms, enable new publishing products and business models, and empower individuals and communities to easily tell their stories as never before.
- Printing Applications Laboratory
Leveraging RIT’s comprehensive collection of full-scale contemporary printing equipment, laboratory instrumentation, and the expertise of RIT’s world renowned faculty and technical staff, the Printing Applications Laboratory provides industry with empirical approaches to control and improve the quality of their products and expand the knowledge of printing industry professionals. PAL provides digital media certification programs, product/process auditing, competitive benchmarking, and assistance with product development. PAL also assists industry with a broad range of both open enrollment and customized corporate educational programs.
- Printing Industry Center
Dedicated to the study of major business environment influences in the printing industry brought on by new technologies and societal changes, the PIC at RIT addresses the concerns of the printing industry through research initiatives and educational outreach. The Center creates a forum for printing companies and associations worldwide to access a neutral platform for the dissemination of knowledge that can be trusted; to share ideas, and to build the partnerships needed to sustain growth in a rapidly changing market.
- School of Print Media
RIT’s school of print media offers a one-of-a-kind opportunity to learn about the integration of new media. SPM reflects the evolution of graphic communications from conventional print and publishing into “cross media” applications.
