The GIS team of instructors is comprised of both in-house staff and RIT faculty members, expert trainers, and experienced business practitioners who adapt their knowledge to address real-world challenges. In addition, GIS uses a variety of approaches to training to make the most effective use of any organization's resources.

Direct Assistance

GIS' New York State Pollution Prevention Institute (NYSP2I) provides technical assistance for individual New York State companies, RTDC's, cluster organizations and additional research and development entities in the areas of:

  • Technology diffusion
  • Process improvement and implementation
  • Workforce training

In addition, NYSP2I's Outreach, Inreach, and Marketing functions serve as a communication pipeline into the NYSP2I for individual companies, clusters, RTDCs and other technical assistance providers to deliver assessment tools, technical information, R&D, and diffusion activities for their use or for clients.

Center for Excellence in Lean Enterprise

The Center for Excellence in Lean Enterprise seeks to promote the use of lean tools by providing comprehensive training programs and team driven implementation process improvements.

Lean principles take into account all processes used in business including time, energy, materials and space, seeking to reduce waste and increase efficiency. Lean technology can be implemented in numerous industries and environments including:

  • Manufacturing
  • Health Care
  • Office operations
  • Numerous Service Industries

CELE works with companies to streamline processes and work flow, reduce material waste, and allocate employee time and talent more efficiently. Benefits that can be achieved through the application of lean principles include:

Funding availability in new training grants to New York State businesses for upgrading the skills of their workforce may be available to qualifying businesses to offset a portion of the service costs. Funding is available to:

  • A private sector, for-profit, or not-for-profit business
  • A group of two or more such businesses with the same or similar training needs
  • A business in conjunction with a labor organization
  • New and incumbent workers employed in New York State
