My goal for the two weeks of medical science camp was to introduce students to many of the principles and practices of medicine.The students were thrilled to culture bacteria from their own bodies and from supermarket foods, to examine human hearts with heart disease, and to use sophisticated laboratory equipment to look for antibodies against disease. They also had fun learning how to structure a fitness protocol, to immobilize a patient with traumatic injuries and to administer CPR. I would not be at all surprised to learn in the future that several of these students went on to become doctors and research scientists. They were a remarkable group of young scholars!
