There is only one earth and there is a lot we can learn about keeping it balanced. From our apples to our iPods the things in our life have an effect on our lives and the planet. For a week we will study the science that is making our world a better place. During the time we spend at camp we will learn how we can shape the future with the help of biologists and engineers on campus.
Can we grow oil? Research at RIT is discovering that algae can be an important source of oil and energy. Campers will build a bioreactor to study what it takes to get oil from these photosynthetic organisms.
How do living things reduce, reuse and recycle? There is a lot humans can learn from the other species on earth. Every specie has strategies for living sustainably in their environment. We will use the lessons we learn to see how we might apply them to our own life.
How healthy is the earth? Satellites are used to see how the earth is doing. Like doctors monitoring vital signs, scientists are using satellites to monitor the health of our earth. We will look at what is means to be healthy for the earth and our own lives.
