House of General Science Hydrogen Cannon

Exhibit Code: OUT-113
Zone: Innovation Center
Location: Outside (OUT/000) - Outside CSI
Time: All Day

Description:
For the 2011 Imagine RIT, students in the House of General Science (HOGS) created a hydrogen- powered PVC combustion device. This year, visitors will see the latest version. The idea is to, via electrolysis, form hydrogen and oxygen in an enclosed chamber in which, when a spark is applied, causes a contained combustion forcing a projectile to fly into the air. With multiple chambers, increased safety features, and new design elements, the 2012 Hydrogen Cannon will be, in all ways, more impressive than the first. Anyone interested in seeing chemistry and mechanical interactions in action, as well as anyone interested in seeing projectiles as well as free clothing launched into the air will not be disappointed by the House of General Science Hydrogen Cannon.
