Senior Design Project With DR Compressor
Exhibit Code: GLE-228
Zone: Engineering Park
Location: James E. Gleason Hall (GLE/009) - 2329
Time: All Day
Description:
This project is an ongoing evolution of previous Senior Design projects from RIT's Mechanical Engineering Department. The primary component of the project is a large reciprocating compressor, generously sponsored by Dresser-Rand Corporation. Our project focuses on damping vibrations present in the system, as well as cooling the system without using an external pump. Visitors will be able to see a large (7,300 pound) reciprocating compressor transition from an undamped (vibrating) condition to a damped (reduced vibration) condition. Visitors will also be able to see a cooling system operating entirely without external inputs.
