Zone: Artistic Alley
Location: Jame E. Booth Hall (BOO/007A) - Webb Auditorium Lobby
Time: 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Description:
Americans waste nearly 40% of the food they buy, totaling in almost $165 Billion every year in uneaten food. To combat food waste, we are working to retrofit peoples existing kitchen spaces with smart technology to create an experience that alters wasteful habits. Our solution, named Savory, is a web and mobile application accompanying a small hardware component that can easily be installed in any refrigerator or pantry. This device will track the quantity and expiration dates of items in the kitchen via RFID tags installed in packaging. The data is then used to alert users when items are expiring and allows us to recommend more efficient food usage and exciting new recipes.
