RIT Certificate Authority - IE (Macintosh)
What is a Certificate Authority?
A Certificate Authority is a service that issues the certificates needed
to run a public
key infrastructure. The CA could be an external commercial CA, or it could
be a CA run by
your company. The certificates enable a user to log on using a smart card,
send encrypted
e-mail, code-sign documents, and more. Since a CA is an important trust
point in an
organization, most organizations will have their own CA.
Installing the Certificate
- Open an Internet Explorer browser window
- On the menu bar, select File | Open…
- Type http://www.rit.edu/cgi-bin/loadcert
in the text field box. Click Open.

verified that the Certificate is not a forgery" and
"I trust the Issuer to verify Internet Security". Click the
Accept button.
- Next you will need to define a certificate password then click the
OK button.
- If the computer is a multiple-user computer, please leave the password
field blank.
- If the computer is a single-user computer, please enter a
password.

certificate password assigned, skip to step 8.

button.

OK button
- A dialog box will appear indicating that the certificate has been
