SIRP: Planning Guide - Introduction
RIT has undertaken a project to replace Social Security numbers as the primary identifier of students, faculty, staff and alumni. The new primary identifier, called the University ID (UID), will be a nine-digit generated number. The student and business systems will be converted the week of May 27, 2006 through June 4, 2006. This change will impact academic and administrative procedures and data throughout the University, including local business processes, forms, ID card applications, departmental systems, servers and desktops. Planning the conversion activities in each unit will be key to successfully synchronizing all of the changes that must be made across the University.
A Student ID Replacement Project Task Force has been set up with representatives from all areas of the University . The Task Force, with support from across the entire unit, will be responsible for ensuring that processes now using Social Security Number for the Student ID are identified, and successfully converted. The following documents will guide these teams in researching the impact of this change on its particular area, identifying specifics and documenting where conversion steps, changes to procedures and reports, and form updates will be necessary. It is designed to lead teams through the research, documentation steps and conversion process in a structured approach that provides a written record of the progress in each area.
The Guide will contain three phases, as identified below. Time frame for Phase I - September 30, 2005 through October 21, 2005. Time frame for Phases II and III - November 21, 2005 through January 16, 2006.
