Windows Vista Wireless Advanced Setup

Advanced Setup

  1. Click on the Start button (usually in the lower left-hand corner of your screen), and then "Connect to."

  2. Select "Set up a connection or network". The following dialog box should be displayed:

  3. Select "Manually connect to a wireless network", and then select "Next."

    If the "Manually connect to a wireless network" option is not listed in the "Choose a connection option" dialog box, make sure that your wireless network adapter appears in the "Network Connections" folder as a wireless connection and is enabled.

  4. On the "Manually connect to a wireless network" page, enter the following information:
    • Network name: RIT
    • Security type: WPA2-Enterprise
    • Encryption type: AES
    • Select "Connect even if the network is not broadcasting"

     
  5. Select "Next", then select "Change connection settings". 
     
  6. Configure the following options on the "Connections" tab:
    • Uncheck the box next to "Connect to a more preferred network if available"
    • Make sure the box next to "Connect even if the network is not broadcasting" is checked
       
  7. Select the "Security" tab.
     
  8. Configure the following options on the "Security" tab:
    • Deselect "Cache user information for subsequent connections to this network".
      The next time you connect to this network, you will be prompted for your RIT Computer Account username and password.
    • Select "Protected EAP (PEAP)" from the "Choose a network authentication method:" drop-down menu.
    • Click the "Settings..." button.

    The following dialog box should be displayed:
    Protected EAP settings. Validate Servers. Connect to Radius.rit.edu
  9. Click the "Configure..." button.   You will be shown the following dialog box:Vista WPA2 setup
  10. Uncheck "Automatically use my Windows logon name and Password..." then select OK.
  11. Select "OK" on the "Protected EAP Properties" dialog box.
  12. Select "OK" on the "RIT Wireless Network properties" dialog box. A ballon will pop-up near the lower right-hand corner of the screen.
     
  13. Click on the balloon pop-up message to display the "Enter Credentials" dialog box:
    Enter RIT Creds
  14. Enter your RIT Computer Account username and password and click "OK".
    The following dialog box should be displayed:
    Validate Server
  15. Select "OK" to accept the certificate.

    This dialog box can be displayed behind currently open windows and must be accepted to connect.

     

  16. Your computer should now be connected to the "RIT" wireless network.
     
  17. Click the "Close" button.

When your RIT Password expires, you may have to remove the wireless profile, re-add, and re-enter your RIT username and updated password.
