Ctrax: Music on Demand
Cdigix recently informed us that they will no longer provide the CTRAX online music service. Existing customers may continue to use the service until May 1, 2007, but no new accounts are presently being created. RIT is evaluating next steps, including whether or not we should look for an alternative online music service.
Following is a statement issued regarding the CTRAX service by Cdigix in February 2007:
We have recently been evaluating how to serve our university customers better to unlock the potential of digital delivery on campus. With input from many of our schools, we kept hearing a constant theme: focus on curriculum, which is the core mission of the university. In the past, we've offered both educational products such as Clabs and entertainment products such as Ctrax. Given the harsh reality of student file sharing of music, together with the increased emphasis on music by large global companies such as Apple and Microsoft, it became clear to us that a renewed focus on education would require us to make a transition away from our Ctrax music service.
We have received enormous support from our college partners for this decision. By focusing on Clabs, we will be able to offer industry leading products and services to allow professors and administrations to procure, assign, deliver and share audio and video curriculum. We are particularly excited about the opportunity to create a community of educators who can share rich media across campuses with their colleagues. You'll hear more in the coming months about Clabs plans for the future, but, be certain that they will be responsive to the needs of the schools we serve.
As to our Ctrax music service, we have organized support to help you through the process of deciding what to do about music on your campus for the future. As of 5/1/07, Ctrax will no longer be made available to students at your campus and our team stands ready to work with you through this transition process. Please find attached more information that will help to explain certain initial details of this transition. If you have any questions, please contact me directly or work with one of the other Company team members you have interacted with in the past. In addition, if you or your students have any questions about the Ctrax product itself, please direct those questions to support@cdigix.com.
We sincerely hope to make this process a smooth one for you and your campus and look forward to discussions on how to support your educational needs with our Clabs suite of products
If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions as to next steps, please email Dave Pecora at Dave.Pecora@rit.edu.
Thank You.
