Drag and drop a title bar proxy icon
There are small icons found next to the file's name in the title bars of document windows in many classic Mac OS programs and most Mac OS X applications. These proxy icons can act as the document files themselves. They can be dragged and dropped between applications and to the Finder as if they were the actual file icons in the Finder:
- Save the current file. It is best to save the current file before you - potentially - move it.
- Click on the title bar proxy icon, and hold the mouse button for a moment.
- Drag the icon to some destination, such as to the "Attachments" area in a Microsoft Entourage e-mail message window or a location in the Finder. The destination area will generally be highlighted with a color border when you drag an icon over it. (You may also Copy a file by drag and drop or Make an alias to a file by drag and drop.)
- Let go of the mouse button when the icon is over the destination to drop it there.
