Microsoft Entourage 2004 version 11.2.3 update
The Microsoft Entourage 2004 version 11.2.3 update provides several enhancements to the Entourage experience on Mac OS X Tiger, and also fixes a few outstanding issues. ITS recommends this applying update, partly because it is included with the full Microsoft Office 2004 version 11.2.3 update (which fixes a security issue with Excel 2004).
Enhancements
To take full advantage of the new features in Microsoft Entourage 2004 v11.2.3, you will need to have at least Mac OS X Tiger version 10.4.3. As stated in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 915057, the following features have been added in this release:
- Sync Services: "Entourage 2004 for Mac can synchronize contacts, events, tasks, and notes through Sync Services."
- Spotlight: "You can use Spotlight to index all unencrypted Entourage 2004 for Mac items and to search their contents."
- Smart cards: "Entourage 2004 for Mac can use certificates and private keys that are stored on smart cards to sign, to encrypt, and to decrypt Entourage 2004 for Mac e-mail messages. This update also improves Secure/Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension (S/MIME) certificate support."
Note that smart cards are not in general use at RIT as of this writing.
Other improvements
There are several issues involving calendar event invitations/updates/cancellations that have been addressed by the v11.2.3 update to Entourage. Some of these issues were reported to Microsoft by RIT—so again, the feedback from our campus and support requests received by ITS help to improve this product. The issues are documented in the release notes found in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 915057.
Another notable improvement we have discovered is that Entourage v11.2.3 can now import multi-event iCalendar (.ics) files. Previously, when Entourage encountered an iCalendar file containing multiple events (such as those used with Apple iCal), it would import the first event only. This small enhancement was also one requested by RIT in the past.
