View private events in Microsoft Entourage
Microsoft Entourage on a Macintosh and Microsoft Outlook (on a Windows computer and on a Macintosh) handle private events in different ways.
As seen in Microsoft Outlook
Using Microsoft Outlook (a MAPI client, see Exchange MAPI and IMAP access from a Macintosh), a user has the ability to denote a calendar event as "private." When that tag is selected, the event is then saved to the calendar and it appears with a small key icon on the event object. This denotes that the event is indeed set as "private."
For delegates of that principal user's calendar, this private event appears as a standard calendar object. However, even delegates cannot open the event -- and the title is listed as "Private Appointment."
As seen in Microsoft Entourage 2004
It is possible to view events as a delegate within Microsoft Entourage 2004 -- this was not available in prior versions of Entourage (see Microsoft Entourage and access to other people's calendars). However, an event that is marked as "private" does not even appear when the principal user's account is viewed by the delegate. The private events are evaluated correctly for the Free/Busy Server -- and free/busy information can be used for scheduling appointments. However, the actual event does not show up within the combined principal-delegate calendar view.
