Compress e-mail attachments with Microsoft Entourage 2004

Microsoft Entourage 2004 includes the ability to compress e-mail attachments with StuffIt, a cross-platform compression format from Allume Systems. Microsoft licensed the StuffIt Engine for Entourage 2004, so you can send StuffIt-compressed e-mail attachments without having to pay for additional software.

While the StuffIt Engine is included with Mac OS X -- and is normally used for decompression of files downloaded from the Internet -- not everyone uses StuffIt. It is definitely more common on Macintosh computers than on Windows systems, for example.

For that reason, you can also compress files in other ways. You can Create a Zip archive in Mac OS X 10.3 or later, for example. Once you create a ZIP archive in the Finder, you can Drag and drop message attachments on the Microsoft Entourage Dock icon to create a new message with that compressed archive.
