Microsoft Entourage Junk Mail Filter
As of Microsoft Office 2001, Microsoft Entourage includes a Junk Mail Filter. This feature helps to identify possible "spam" or "junk" messages, and other types of unsolicited mail. The Filter marks suspect messages as junk, and offers the choice to mark them as read or run an AppleScript. Users may also create Entourage "Rules" to sort or delete junk mail.
E-mail addresses included in your Entourage address book will never be marked as junk. Additionally, you may set extra domains (such as rit.edu) that will not be marked as junk.
Enabling the Junk Mail Filter
- Click the Tools menu.
- Select "Junk Mail Filter..." from the list of menu items. The "Junk Mail Filter" window will appear.

- Check the box next to "Enable Junk Mail Filter." Filtering is now turned on.
- Move the sensitivity slider to the left or right to decrease or increase the number of flagged messages. The further to the right, the more likely a non-junk message will be flagged as junk.
- Enter "rit.edu" into the text box below "Do not apply to messages from these domains." This will ensure that no messages from RIT users are ever marked "junk."
- Enter any additional domains you would like to protect, seperated by commas. Example: "rit.edu,xerox.com" and so on.
- Check the box next to "Mark as read," if you would like to automatically remove junk messages from the list of unread messages.
- Check the box next to "Run AppleScript," if you would like to run a user-defined AppleScript when new junk messages are found. Note: for advanced users only.
- Click OK.
