Subscribe to Exchange Public Folders with Microsoft Entourage
To use Exchange's Public Folders in Microsoft Entourage v.X or 2004, you must first subscribe to the folders you wish to view. You cannot browse the contents of any given Public Folder by selecting it from a hierarchical list of all Public Folders.
To subscribe to a Public Folder:
- Open a new main window by choosing the "Open New Main Window" command under "New" in the File menu.

- Find the "Public Folders" object under your Exchange account in Entourage's Folder List pane in the new main window you created. Wait as the master Public Folder list updates. Based on the size of RIT's Public Folder list, this process can take 30 minutes or more.
Note: Because you opened a new main window in a previous step, you may keep working in your original main window by selecting it from the Window menu. As long as you keep the second main window open while it is getting the Public Folder list, it will continue downloading that data from the Exchange servers. If you quit Entourage before the Public Folder list has been built -- or switch to a different folder in the main window where you are loading the Public Folder list -- then you will have to re-load the entire list again. This will take about as long as the first time you loaded it.
- Click on the disclosure triangles next to the names of Public Folders to expand them, once the list appears in the main Entourage window.
- Expand the folder list until you find the folder you want to view.
- Click once on the name of the folder to highlight it, and then click the "Subscribe" button in the Entourage toolbar. The subscribed folder is added underneath the "Public Folders" item in the Folder List pane.
- Repeat the steps above for each folder you want to view.
Each subscribed folder is listed under the "Public Folders" item in the Folder List; to read messages in those folders, select the subscribed folder just as you would select any mail folder in your Exchange account.
Unfortunately, you cannot Post directly to an Exchange folder with Microsoft Entourage v.X or 2004.
